Full-Time | Four 10-hour day shifts, Monday–Friday | Rotating on-call weekends

First Coast Veterinary Specialists & Emergency in Jacksonville Beach, FL is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Service. This is an excellent opportunity for a Veterinary Technician who enjoys specialty medicine, advanced surgical care, and working closely with experienced surgeons and technicians.

You’ll support surgical patients throughout their care while continuing to build your technical skills in a collaborative environment where teamwork, respect, and professional growth are valued.

Compensation

$25–$31 per hour based on experience and licensure

Schedule

  • Full-Time
  • Four 10-hour day shifts per week
  • Shifts scheduled Monday–Friday
  • Participation in rotating on-call weekends required

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care for surgical patients throughout the perioperative period
  • Support veterinarians and surgeons with surgical procedures and patient care
  • Perform Veterinary Technician duties including patient assessment, restraint, venipuncture, phlebotomy, anesthesia monitoring, and diagnostic procedures
  • Calculate and safely administer anesthetic agents under established protocols
  • Monitor patients throughout anesthesia and recovery and communicate changes to the medical team
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging and laboratory procedures
  • Prepare patients, equipment, medications, and treatment areas for surgical procedures
  • Maintain accurate patient records and communicate patient updates effectively
  • Provide compassionate client communication regarding patient care when appropriate
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe surgical environment
  • Work collaboratively with Veterinary Technicians, surgeons, assistants, and other hospital team members
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and supportive specialty hospital culture
  • Continue developing technical skills through mentorship, continuing education, and hands-on experience

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of veterinary technician experience
  • Strong veterinary knowledge base and technical skills, including restraint, venipuncture, phlebotomy, anesthesia monitoring, calculation and delivery of anesthetic agents, diagnostic imaging, laboratory equipment, and laboratory procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow patient care and anesthesia protocols
  • Excellent communication skills with clients and veterinary team members
  • Ability to adapt to the individual needs of patients in a specialty and emergency environment
  • Commitment to excellent patient care and outstanding client service
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive, respectful team culture
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
