This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Large Animal Veterinary Technician 2 position for the Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University (OSU).
Oregon State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital is adding talented certified veterinary technicians to the Large Animal Surgery Department. We are looking for self-motivated people with a passion for teaching. It is a fast paced, team-oriented hospital that focuses on an optimal level of patient care while providing supportive instruction to our students, and excellent customer service to our clients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have current certification as a Veterinary Technician and ability to obtain and maintain Oregon certification within six months of hire date AND, demonstrated experience in animal handling and restraint in a clinical setting, as well as demonstrated experience and knowledge of:
Drugs and medications typically used in veterinary care
Aseptic techniques, patient preparation and medical procedure assistance
Medical terminology
Operating room procedures
Anesthesia equipment and procedures
Record keeping procedures for patient charts
Animal anatomy and physiology
Lifesaving techniques for animals
Veterinary care procedures
Basic mathematics (including drug dosage and fluid rate calculation)
General computer skills
Finalists for this position will be required to complete a criminal background history and motor vehicle background criteria form. Offers of employment are contingent upon a satisfactory background check. This position may require a valid driver license.
Demonstrated high level of attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; must have the ability to communicate professionally with a variety of individuals.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with students, stall, faculty, and clients.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2 or more years of experience providing medical care for large animals in a veterinary teaching hospital or veterinary clinic.
Extensive knowledge and experience working with large animals in all aspects of veterinary nursing.
Demonstrated ability to effectively instruct others in veterinary techniques.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing inclusive excellence.
