Valley Oak SPCA Veterinary Clinic is looking for an experienced, compassionate, hardworking Part-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our team!
We are a busy, fast-paced veterinary clinic that provides high-quality veterinary care while helping improve the lives of animals in our community. We perform a high volume of spay and neuter surgeries, along with wellness services, vaccinations, dentals, blood work, medical procedures, and other veterinary services.

Status: Part-Time
Schedule: Day shifts, Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday, depending on clinic needs
Start: Immediate
Primarily daytime shifts
Regular schedules may be Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday, depending on the clinic's needs
Must have availability to work Saturdays when scheduled; Saturday shifts are occasional and are not necessarily every Saturday
Must be available for occasional evening shifts, with shifts ending approximately 8:30–9:00 PM
Clinic holidays are observed off
Flexibility and reliability are important in this position
Our Veterinary Assistants are an important part of our medical team and work closely with our veterinarians and other staff.
Duties may include:
Assist veterinarians with examinations and medical procedures
Obtain patient histories and prepare animals for examinations and treatment
Restrain and handle dogs and cats safely and compassionately
Assist with our vaccine clinics
Administer vaccinations as directed
Microchip animals
Perform nail trims and anal gland expressions
Draw blood and assist with laboratory testing and blood work
Place IV catheters
Prepare patients for surgery, including shaving and surgical scrubbing
Assist veterinarians during spay/neuter and other surgical procedures
Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment
Assist with dental procedures, including scaling and polishing
Monitor and recover patients following anesthesia
Recognize and report abnormal changes in patients to the veterinarian
Assist with euthanasia procedures with compassion and professionalism
Administer medications and treatments as directed
Clean, disinfect, and maintain kennels, treatment areas, surgery rooms, and equipment
Maintain accurate medical records and logs
Maintain and inventory medical, surgical, vaccination, and other supplies
Assist with front-office/customer service duties as needed
Participate in community events and vaccine clinics when needed
Follow all safety, sanitation, and clinic procedures
Provide excellent patient care and treat every animal with compassion and respect
Perform other duties as needed to support the clinic and team
Required:
Veterinary assistant experience
Strong animal handling skills
Communicates clearly and works well with a supportive team.
Takes initiative and stays productive without constant direction
Is committed to ongoing learning and professional growth, adaptable and trainable
Strong animal handling skills
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Dependable, punctual, and excellent work ethics.
Able to work well independently while also being a strong team player
Comfortable working around dogs, cats, surgery, blood, bodily fluids, and medical procedures
Compassionate and respectful toward animals, clients, veterinarians, and coworkers
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and remain on your feet/move throughout the clinic as needed
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
2+ years of veterinary assistant experience or R.V.T. License holders are encouraged to apply!
Experience placing IV catheters and drawing blood
Experience with dental procedures, including scaling and polishing
Experience working in a high-volume spay/neuter environment
Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)
