The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality medical care to animals. This role involves assisting with patient handling, maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment, and delivering compassionate customer service to pet owners.Southern Coastal Vet is located in Riverview, Fl. We are looking for an assistant for our new build facility set to open March 2, 2026. We are a boutique style Small Animal GP and looking for an assistant who is comfortable with low stress and fear free techniques.
Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and procedures
Safely restrain and handle animals to ensure their comfort and safety
Prepare examination rooms, surgical areas, and medical equipment
Clean, sanitize, and maintain kennels, treatment areas, and instruments
Feed, bathe, walk, and monitor hospitalized animals
Observe and report changes in animal behavior or condition
Stock supplies and assist with inventory management
Provide basic client education and support under supervision
Maintain accurate records and follow clinic protocols
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Previous experience working with animals preferred
Ability to handle animals safely and humanely
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Basic knowledge of animal health and behavior is a plus
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Ability to lift and restrain animals of varying sizes
Stand, bend, and move for extended periods
Comfortable working around animals, chemicals, and medical equipment
Veterinary clinic or animal hospital setting
May require evenings, weekends, and holidays
Exposure to animals, including those that may be frightened or injured
Compassionate and patient demeanor
Attention to detail
Dependable and punctual
