Nashville Veterinary Specialists in Nashville, TN is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Overnight ICU Team. This opportunity is ideal for a Veterinary Assistant or experienced veterinary professional who enjoys hands-on patient care, complex cases, and working as part of a supportive overnight team.
You’ll work alongside experienced veterinary professionals while supporting ICU patients and helping provide high-quality care in a specialty and emergency animal hospital.
$20–$29 per hour based on experience
Additional $4.50 shift and weekend differentials available

Full-Time
Three consistent 12-hour shifts per week
Overnight Shift: 6:00 PM–6:00 AM
Shift and weekend differentials available
Provide hands-on patient care and support the veterinary medical team in the ICU
Assist with patient monitoring, treatments, diagnostics, restraint, and daily nursing care
Support Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians with the care of hospitalized and critical patients
Assist with patient care procedures based on training and experience
Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked patient care areas
Follow hospital protocols for patient safety, sanitation, and infection control
Accurately document patient care and communicate observations to the medical team
Provide compassionate and professional client communication when appropriate
Adapt to the changing needs of individual patients in a fast-paced ICU environment
Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative overnight hospital culture
Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant, preferably in emergency medicine
Strong foundational knowledge of veterinary medicine, including triage, disease processes, pharmacology, restraint, diagnostic imaging, phlebotomy, anesthesia, laboratory equipment, and procedures
Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow patient care instructions
Excellent communication skills with both clients and veterinary team members
Ability to adapt to individual patient needs and remain composed in a fast-paced environment
Eagerness to continue learning and developing veterinary skills
Ability to safely lift and carry animals weighing 50 pounds or more
Ability to handle dogs weighing up to 150 pounds
Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
