Village Veterinary Medical Center – Farragut, TN  

Part-Time, 10 hour shifts

providing compassionate care for pets at every stage of life. We offer a full range of services  

including preventative care, advanced diagnostics, surgery, and treatment for illness or injury.

Hospital Hours:  

 

Monday–Friday: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM  

Saturday: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM  

 

Position Overview  

 

The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for a variety of supporting tasks within the veterinary practice.  

Assistants should have completed or be in the process of completing their veterinary assistant  

certification and must pursue significant on-the-job training as they are utilized to maximize their  

capabilities and complement the roles of the Veterinary Technicians.  

You’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our patients, supporting  

both clinical and administrative workflows while contributing to a positive client experience.  

 

Key Responsibilities  

  • Assisting veterinarians and technicians with patient care including appointments, supportive  
  • care, and diagnostics  
  • Assist with restraining, handling, and lifting animals  
  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and maintain accurate medical records  
  • Perform routine in-house lab work, radiographs, and assist with diagnostics  
  • Prepare, calculate, and administer medications and vaccines as directed  
  • Support surgeries and procedures and prepare patients for treatment  
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and provide nursing and comfort care  
  • Communicate with clients regarding patient care, discharge instructions, and education  
  • Maintain cleanliness, sterilization, and organization of hospital areas  
  • Assist with stocking supplies and maintaining inventory  
  • Support reception, kennel, and treatment areas as needed  
  • Help maintain efficient patient flow and collaborate with the medical team  

 

Education and Experience  

  • Required: High school graduate or equivalent  
  • Preferred: Prior veterinary experience or training in a veterinary setting  

 

Knowledge and Skills

Physical Requirements  

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks  
  • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds regularly  
  • Safely restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments  
  • Perform repetitive physical movements including bending, lifting, and reaching  
  • Work in an environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and zoonotic diseases

Compensation  

 

Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay  

rate starting at $15 - $22/ hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide  

range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
