Description
Anderson Veterinary Clinic is seeking a Medical Director with the Thrive Pet Healthcare community. Serving the Anderson and greater Redding region of Northern California.
About You
As a key leader in our hospital, you will drive positive change and growth. Your influence will shape our medical standards, foster an exceptional culture, and support a collaborative team environment. Partnering with the Practice Manager and hospital leadership, you will guide the medical direction of the hospital while mentoring veterinarians and maintaining the highest standards of patient and client care.
This role combines hands-on clinical practice with medical leadership responsibilities including mentorship of veterinarians, development of medical protocols, oversight of medical quality, and collaboration with hospital leadership to support operational excellence.
Experience & Skills Requirements
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM / VMD) or equivalent degree required
• State Veterinary Board License and must be in good standing for the state in which they intend to be hired, prior to their start date
• Active DEA license or DEA licensure eligible
• Proven clinical experience in companion animal veterinary medicine
• Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and decision-making skills
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities

Anderson Veterinary Clinic is a small animal general practice serving Anderson and the surrounding Northern California communities. The hospital provides comprehensive veterinary services including wellness and preventive care, diagnostics, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery.
Our team is dedicated to delivering compassionate and individualized care to patients while building strong, trusted relationships with pet parents. Anderson Veterinary Clinic serves a loyal client base and plays an important role in the local veterinary community supporting families throughout Anderson and nearby Redding.
Located just south of Redding, Anderson offers the feel of a close-knit Northern California community with easy access to one of the West Coast's most recreation-rich regions. The Sacramento River runs through Anderson, while nearby Shasta Lake and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area offer boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and miles of trails. With Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park within reach, the region is an ideal home base for veterinarians who value outdoor adventure, open space, and a lifestyle beyond the congestion of California's larger metropolitan areas.
The hospital maintains a collaborative environment where veterinarians are supported by experienced clinical staff and Thrive’s broader medical leadership network. The clinic operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Medical Director Responsibilities
• Provide high-quality medical and surgical care to patients
• Manage, direct, and oversee the medical, surgical, and client service performance of veterinarians in the hospital
• Establish, review, and uphold medical standards, protocols, and best practices
• Monitor doctor specific KPIs related to medical quality and patient care
• Review medical records to ensure accuracy and adherence to hospital standards
• Oversee case management, medical decision making, and quality of care
• Mentor and support associate veterinarians and clinical teams
• Partner with hospital leadership to align medical quality with operational goals
• Foster a collaborative, respectful, and positive hospital culture
• Address medical concerns, client complaints, and complex cases as needed
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of veterinarians
• Promote continuing education and clinical growth for veterinary teams
• Stay current on advances in veterinary medicine and regulatory requirements
• Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, safety standards, and ethical guidelines
