Duties: Provide professional advocacy and assistance to veterans, dependents, and survivors seeking federal, state, and local veterans' benefits, including but not limited to:
Interview veterans and eligible dependents to determine eligibility for VA and state benefits.
Prepare, develop, submit, and monitor VA disability compensation, pension, survivor, education, health care, and other benefit claims.
Review VA decisions and prepare appeals when appropriate.
Conduct research and obtain military, medical, and other supporting documentation necessary to develop claims.
Maintain accurate electronic client records using eVetAssist and other required software systems.
Conduct home visits, nursing home visits, and outreach to assist veterans unable to travel to the office.
Answer telephones, respond to client inquiries, and provide referrals to community agencies and resources.
Complete financial assistance applications when appropriate under Commission guidelines.
Maintain monthly activity reports and required documentation.
Attend required accreditation training and continuing education to maintain certification.
Participate in veterans'' events, outreach activities, and public education programs.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the daily operations of the Veterans Service Commission.
