The Venture Research Analyst plays a critical role in supporting venture capital decision-making through deep market research, data analysis, and trend identification. This role focuses less on direct deal execution and more on building insights that inform sourcing, diligence, and long-term investment strategy.
Venture Research Analysts collaborate with investors, operators, and portfolio teams to evaluate markets, technologies, and business models shaping the startup ecosystem.
Conduct in-depth research on emerging markets, technologies, and startup sectors
Analyze industry trends, competitive landscapes, and category evolution
Support investment thesis development through qualitative and quantitative research
Evaluate startups through secondary research on products, traction, teams, and positioning
Build and maintain market maps, landscape analyses, and benchmarking frameworks
Analyze early-stage company data, metrics, and financial assumptions
Assist with preparation of internal research memos, sector deep dives, and presentations
Track portfolio company performance metrics and market comparables
Support investment committee discussions with research insights and data summaries
Monitor venture capital activity, funding trends, and ecosystem developments
Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business, engineering, data, or another analytical discipline
Strong interest in venture capital, startups, innovation, and emerging technologies
Experience in research, consulting, finance, strategy, data analysis, or venture internships is a plus
Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Strong written communication and presentation abilities
Comfortable working with data, reports, and unstructured information
Curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to develop expertise across industries
