Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Senior Superintendent for Mechanical HVAC, provide direct supervision to multi-skilled trade personnel on ventilation corrective/preventative maintenance and construction projects. Assign work and provide expert technical ventilation support for the installation, inspection, maintenance and service of ventilation systems. Direct the service and repairs on a variety of campus ventilation systems including air handlers, return and exhaust fans, fume hoods, perchloric hoods, BSC cabinets and various other HVAC systems. Oversee database for annual fume hood certification insuring all hoods are up to date on certification requirements. Work directly with Work Flow Analyst (WFA) to complete annual master list for Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) records. Supervise mechanics on corrections associated with Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) inspections and associated record keeping and auditing.

The department is responsible for maintaining over 12 million square feet of space spanning more than 1,200 buildings, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. by highly skilled, multi-trade professionals, Building Maintenance Services delivers expertise in a wide range of building systems, including electrical, elevator, and alarm systems; mechanical systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), sheet metal, and refrigeration; plumbing and hot water systems; and structural trades including carpentry, flooring, pest control, locks and keys, painting, and roofing.

Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License. Participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. This is an exempt position. The workweek for a full-time exempt employee is normally considered to be 40 hours; however, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to the position than on working a specified number of hours. Exempt employees do not receive overtime compensation or compensatory time off, or additional compensation beyond the established salary for the position. May work a non-standard work schedule that includes nights, weekends, or alternative schedules such as 80 hours in 8 or 9 shifts instead of 10. Vacation usage by the employee restricted during peak workload periods as required to meet the needs of the campus. Work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Specific hazards include but are not limited to: asbestos, PCB's radioactive materials, industrial and laboratory chemicals, fuels, solvents, infectious materials and wastes, biological hazards and other materials labeled hazardous. Requires use of respirator and protective clothing. Supports critical campus functions operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Required to participate in a program to facilitate timely return of staff to the campus as required to meet critical needs. The program requires the employee to inform the University how they can be reached during non-working hours, to carry University provided cell phones or other telecommunications equipment which would facilitate communication between the campus and employee during non-work hours.
