    Description

    Job Summary

    Ensures safety, specifications, and quality for fleet vehicles and equipment. Oversees engineering applications related to vehicle specifications, including manufacturer, regulatory, and corporate requirements, as well as risk analysis.

    Works with vendor partners and internal customers to assess technical specifications for new vehicles and determine required modifications to existing fleet assets. Provides oversight of vehicle and equipment safety-related issues, including determination of field defects, identification of resolutions, and required reporting to leadership.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Oversees quality control processes to ensure new fleet assets are delivered according to established specifications and quality requirements.
    • Determines vehicle designs and specifications based on business needs, including weight capacity, upfit/placement, technology, and other requirements.
    • Coordinates retrofit and modification requests to maintain high standards and compliance with performance, productivity, environmental, and safety requirements.
    • Assesses and coordinates field defects to identify and implement appropriate resolutions for vehicles.
    • Addresses vehicle safety concerns and provides guidance on fleet technical questions and issues.
    • Develops resolution steps to correct vehicle- and equipment-related safety issues, including investigations and required reporting.
    • Oversees vehicle, equipment, and new technology pilot programs, including testing, analysis, and feasibility assessments for full-scale implementation.
    • Supports vendor relationships and provides oversight for field training on new vehicles and assets for operators and mechanics.
    • Ensures fleet assets meet applicable government regulations and safety requirements, including Department of Transportation requirements.

    Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

    This is a multi-track position. Education and experience requirements may be satisfied through one of the following options:

    1. High School Diploma and 9 years of experience working with fleet specifications and administration in an industrial or commercial setting; OR
    2. Associate's Degree in Engineering or a related field and 7 years of experience working with fleet specifications and administration in an industrial or commercial setting; OR
    3. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field and 5 years of experience working with fleet specifications and administration in an industrial or commercial setting.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with utility fleet specifications.
    • Experience with medium-duty vehicles.

    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to coordinate deadlines and logistics to successfully lead work processes within an agreed-upon timeframe.
    • Ability to balance multiple demands from leaders, subordinates, and peers in a positive and even-handed manner.
    • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
