    JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Vehicle Mechanic Salary Block: Operations Support Pay Grade 7 Reports To: Transportation Supervisor Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Terms of Employment: 238 Days Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED Associates of Occupational Studies Degree in Automotive Technology (preferred) Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class A or B), with Passenger and School Bus endorsements or obtain within 90 days of employment (preferred) Must possess the minimum required tools for a mechanic Three years' experience as mechanic (preferred) Special Knowledge/Skills: Advanced knowledge of diesel and gas engines Advanced knowledge on proper maintenance and repair of both diesel and gas engine vehicles Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs independently Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts Ability to pass alcohol and drug test Ability to pass required bus driver safety training Acceptable driving record Ability to operate school bus Ability to read wiring diagrams Knowledgeable in Microsoft word and Excel spreadsheets Major Responsibilities and Duties: Maintenance and Repair.     1. Evaluate vehicle mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment.
    2. Evaluate minor mechanical problems.
    3. Rebuild, replace or repair minor and major vehicle components, engines, transmissions, suspensions, etc.
    4. Check and repair electrical and cooling systems.
    5. Install heaters and similar accessories.
    6. Does welding and perform minor and major bodywork.
    7. Estimate time and material required to perform major repairs.
    8. Analyze engine performance and performs tune-ups as needed.
    9. Perform routine vehicle maintenance and preventive care.
    10. Maintain accurate, updated preventive maintenance records.
    11. Help train utility workers and helpers. Safety
    12. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
    13. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.

    1. Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
    2. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and reports unsafe conditions immediately to the lead mechanic who in turn will report it to the shop foreman.
    3. Comply with state regulations, written school board policies, transportation department rules and regulations, and other applicable state and federal laws, including the Department of Public Safety standards. Other
    4. Operate school buses and vehicles as needed.
    5. Work irregular hours as needed.
    6. Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and services.
    7. Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning personnel and students.
    8. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the CISD safety program.
    9. Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follow all district policies.
    10. Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
    11. Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Small hand tools, drill, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, torch, jack and lift equipment. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel gas.
