Job Description:
- The Vehicle Lead Engineer will lead the Engineering and Designing of new Wheelchair Accessible Client such as Side Entries, Rear Entries and Full-size Vans, from start to finish.
- Responsible for designing and integrating all vehicle systems found in wheelchair accessible vehicles and set the overall development strategy.
Responsibilities:- Engineer, Design and Develop new vehicle conversions in CAD (SolidWorks)
- Design Mechanism, Suspensions, Structures and Closures (doors & liftgates)
- Plan for design, procurement, assembly and validation requirements that align with overall Project Timing and Mitigation Strategies.
- Ensure vehicle designs & systems meet Quality and Cost targets.
- Mentor, Guide and Inspire Vehicle Engineers to produce vehicle product differentiators.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Purchasing) to assure vehicle designs account for all requirements.
- Suggest low-cost design alternatives, common designs and standardization. Constantly improving designs, processes, and timing, maintaining project specifications.
- Lead design reviews to assure all vehicle conversions are developed and engineered to meet or exceed requirements.
- Create design Best Practices and review peers designs to ensure these guidelines are met and anticipated design concerns.
Requirements:- Mechanism Design knowledge is a most, expertise preferred, and how to integrate it into the design, with Dimensional Management into consideration like Tolerance Stack-up & Datum Structures.
- Experience in Vehicle Engineering & Integration.
- Understanding of what is required for reliable structural design in Steel & Aluminum, metal fabrication (forming) & welding requirements.
- Knowledge of vehicle systems like; Body Structures, Closures, Suspensions, Fuel, Exhaust, Cooling and Braking systems, materials and industry standards.
- Solid working knowledge of quality, design and validation tools including FEA, DFA/M, D/PFMEA, DVP&R, Problem Solving (Ishikawa Fishbone & 5-Whys), Dimensional Management (GD&T and Tolerance Stack-up).
- Must be detail-oriented, self-starter and can function well under the high demand project timelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed. Extremely organized, accurate and possesses a strong attention to detail required.
- Windows (computer), Outlook (email), SolidWorks, MS Office, and familiar with ERP systems.
Education:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred with min. 7 years of automotive experience or Associate degree in Technology with min.13 years work experience in automotive design.
- Without a degree; 17 years of Automotive Engineering, Design & Manufacturing experience.
