VDI / Windows Desktop Engineer
This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a senior end-user computing engineering organization delivering impactful VDI migration, engineering, and automation outcomes across a large, complex enterprise desktop estate.
Position Overview
This role supports the engineering, migration, and ongoing development of a large-scale enterprise virtual desktop environment. The team is migrating workloads onto Omnissa Horizon and needs engineers who can build, configure, troubleshoot, and improve Windows virtual desktop services.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer and support enterprise Windows virtual desktop environments using Omnissa Horizon
- Support the migration and transition of workloads from existing VDI platforms to Horizon
- Build, configure, and maintain Windows 10/11 virtual desktop images and associated desktop services
- Engineer and optimize desktop images, profiles, policies, and application configurations
- Configure and support Horizon components including Connection Servers, Horizon Agents, desktop pools, and associated infrastructure
- Troubleshoot complex VDI issues across the Windows desktop, application, profile, authentication, and infrastructure layers
- Support Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows security configuration within the virtual desktop environment
- Work with application, infrastructure, network, and security teams to resolve end-to-end desktop issues
- Support application delivery, packaging, and deployment into virtual desktop environments
- Automate repeatable desktop engineering and operational activities using PowerShell or equivalent tooling
- Monitor and optimize VDI performance, stability, capacity, and end-user experience
- Produce engineering documentation, operational procedures, and implementation plans
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience in Windows desktop engineering, particularly Windows 10/11
- Strong experience supporting and engineering an enterprise VDI environment
- Experience with at least one major VDI platform, such as Omnissa/VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Azure Virtual Desktop, or other comparable enterprise VDI technologies
- Good understanding of VDI architecture and desktop delivery concepts
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy
- Experience with Windows image creation, configuration, optimization, and lifecycle management
- Experience troubleshooting desktop performance, application, profile, and authentication issues
- Strong PowerShell skills and an automation-first approach to engineering
- Understanding of enterprise networking concepts relevant to VDI, including DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and remote-access connectivity
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on Omnissa Horizon engineering experience
- Experience migrating from Citrix to Horizon or between other enterprise VDI platforms
- Experience with Omnissa technologies such as Workspace ONE UEM or DEX
- Experience with profile-management technologies such as FSLogix, DEM, or Citrix Profile Management
- Experience with application packaging and deployment technologies
- Knowledge of F5, authentication/SSO technologies, and enterprise remote-access architectures
- Experience with infrastructure automation, scripting, and configuration management
