The VDC Project Leader serves as the primary electrical representative in coordination meetings, working directly with other trades and general contractors to deliver a coordinated, buildable model. Depending on project size and resource availability, this role balances hands-on modeling with team leadership while ensuring modeling outputs support efficient detailing, fabrication, and field installation.
Success in this role is measured by model quality, coordination effectiveness, clarity of inputs and timelines, protection of scope, and timely delivery of modeling information that enables downstream execution.
Job Duties: Modeling Execution & WBS Ownership
Own and manage the modeling Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for assigned projects.
Plan, assign, and track modeling scope to ensure population and coordination are completed as required.
Execute modeling tasks directly as needed based on project size and resource allocation.
Ensure modeling progress aligns with coordination milestones and downstream needs.
Inputs, Timelines & Readiness
Identify and make visible all required modeling inputs needed to support population and coordination.
Define and communicate timelines for required inputs to meet coordination and project milestones.
Monitor receipt of inputs and clearly communicate constraints when timelines are not met.
Escalate risks when required inputs or decisions are not provided in a timely manner.
Team Leadership & Resource Management
Lead and manage internal modeling technicians and third-party modeling resources.
Set expectations, provide direction, and review work to ensure quality and consistency.
Balance workload across resources to meet project priorities and schedules.
Identify staffing or capability gaps and communicate needs to the Assistant BIM Manager.
Trade Coordination & External Collaboration
Represent the electrical scope in coordination meetings with other trades and general contractors.
Lead electrical coordination efforts, including clash resolution and scope alignment.
Work collaboratively with other trades to achieve coordinated, buildable solutions.
Escalate coordination schedule impacts to all affected parties when modeling progress or outputs are delayed.
Constructability, Quality & Change Management
Ensure models are accurate, complete, and suitable for coordination, detailing, fabrication, and installation.
Validate constructability with field, detailing, and fabrication teams to support efficient execution.
Identify constructability or coordination issues early and work with all parties to resolve them, including developing alternate solutions when standards cannot be strictly met.
Manage modeling changes and scope impacts, ensuring out-of-scope requests are identified, escalated, and reflected in the WBS.
Standards & Continuous Improvement
Apply and reinforce company modeling standards across assigned projects.
Work with the Assistant BIM Manager to establish, maintain, and evolve modeling standards and SOPs.
Translate recurring issues into updates to standards, SOPs, or modeling approaches that improve detailing, fabrication, or field outcomes.
Share lessons learned to improve modeling quality, coordination efficiency, and downstream execution.

5+ years of experience in electrical construction, modeling, VDC/BIM, or related role
Demonstrated experience managing modeling scope, coordination, and technician output on projects
Strong working knowledge of Revit and electrical modeling workflows
Experience participating in or leading trade coordination and clash resolution efforts
Understanding of electrical constructability and how modeling supports detailing, fabrication, and installation
Ability to identify missing inputs, define timelines, and communicate impacts when constraints arise
Proven ability to protect scope and escalate out-of-scope requests appropriately
