Kunz is a model-based design and engineering firm focused on improving how complex, mission-critical facilities are designed and delivered. We work at the intersection of engineering, product development, digital design, and construction to create repeatable solutions for large-scale infrastructure programs.
Our teams work on complex technical challenges where design information must move reliably across disciplines and from engineering through construction. By combining deep technical expertise with model-based workflows, we help improve the quality, consistency, and scalability of project delivery.
San Francisco, California or Golden, Colorado
Kunz is expanding its Design Intelligence team to support hyperscale data center programs. We are seeking architects, engineers, and BIM professionals with strong building knowledge and an interest in work breakdown structures, model metadata, and model-based analytics.
Working directly with client stakeholders, you will help turn design models into structured information that provides signals of model health, design change, and potential cost and schedule impacts. The role combines technical BIM expertise with analytical judgment: understanding what the model represents, how its information is organized, and what that information can reliably tell the teams delivering the work.
This is an opportunity for professionals drawn to the “I” in BIM to apply their design and engineering experience beyond model production and contribute directly to program-level decisions.
Reliable analysis starts with a consistent way to describe and organize project scope. You will help develop the work breakdown structures, metadata requirements, and analytical methods that connect model elements to building systems, work packages, and the client’s cost and schedule information.
The work spans information requirements, data extraction, validation, and interpretation. You will investigate inconsistencies, establish meaningful comparisons between model revisions, and help distinguish actual changes in design scope from differences in modeling practices or data quality.
Client collaboration is central to the role. You will work with design, engineering, and program stakeholders to understand the questions they need answered, determine whether the available model information can support those answers, and develop repeatable ways to communicate the findings.
Develop and apply work breakdown structures and classification mappings with the client, connecting model elements and building systems to defined scopes, work packages, and relevant cost and schedule structures.
Define and maintain model metadata requirements, including parameters, identifiers, system assignments, and classification values that enable consistent analysis across disciplines and projects.
Extract, organize, and validate model data to produce structured datasets, quantities, and component inventories that remain traceable to their source.
Assess model health through information completeness, classification coverage, consistency, and quantity checks, identifying gaps that affect confidence in downstream analysis.
Compare model revisions and design configurations to identify changes in quantities, systems, and scope, distinguishing design changes from modeling or metadata discrepancies.
Connect model-derived information with client cost and schedule datasets to support evaluation of affected scope, estimate changes, procurement needs, and delivery dependencies.
Develop reports, dashboards, and repeatable analytical workflows that communicate findings clearly, document assumptions and limitations, and reduce manual reconciliation.
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, design technology, or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, BIM/VDC, design technology, or model-based project delivery.
Professional experience developing or managing building models using Autodesk Revit.
Professional experience working with Revit parameters, schedules, families, categories, or model organization.
Professional experience organizing and analyzing structured data using Excel or comparable tools, including comparing datasets, investigating discrepancies, or validating results.
Strong Revit skills, particularly in parameters, schedules, families, categories, and model organization, with an understanding of how modeling decisions affect the resulting data.
Practical knowledge of building systems and the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and model content to evaluate whether extracted information makes sense.
Clear technical communication and the ability to work directly with clients, clarify ambiguous requirements, and explain findings to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Experience organizing model information into a consistent classification structure.
Experience developing dependable schedules or takeoffs, reconciling data across disciplines, or using model information to answer recurring project questions.
Experience with work breakdown structures, model metadata standards, quantity takeoff, bills of materials, cost-code mapping, work packaging, or model-change analysis.
Familiarity with estimating, scheduling, procurement, or project controls, particularly where that experience connects design information to downstream delivery.
Experience with Dynamo, Python, SQL, Power BI, or comparable automation and analytical tools.
Experience with hyperscale data centers, mission-critical facilities, or other complex architectural, engineering, and construction environments.
For senior-level consideration, experience taking ownership of information standards, analytical methods, and client-facing technical scopes.
Advanced programming is not the central qualification. The foundation is strong BIM expertise, building-system knowledge, and the ability to reason carefully about what the data represents.
Data center experience is helpful but not required. We welcome candidates from complex architectural, engineering, and construction environments, including experienced technical specialists seeking broader responsibility.
