Job purpose
The primary responsibilities of the Utilities Technician is to work as a mechanic with duties pertaining to the operation, installation, training, troubleshooting, and repairing of all plant boiler, utilities systems and equipment. This position is considered a Millwright and the qualified candidate should be capable of doing most jobs in the maintenance field with great skill.
Main Responsibilities
Qualifications/Required Skills
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
Have two years of trade school and/or five years' experience in maintenance.
Proficient with computers, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS.
Technical Skills
Able to install, maintain, and repair a variety of steam and hot water equipment systems involving boilers with complicated components, critical requirements, and ridged tolerances.
Monitor and adjust thermostats, switches, regulators, and other safety devices and alarm systems in compliance with established safety standards.
Must be able to use electronic controls, devices, and automatic boiler management systems to identify equipment malfunctions.
Must be able to complete projects based on individual knowledge and experience with limited Management oversight.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and drawings.
Math Skills: Possess quantitative skills and knowledge of math functions such as percentages, decimals, and the ability to chart numerical data appropriately.
Reasoning Ability
Able to problem solve using skills and abilities to identify and resolve issues with equipment.
Displays strong organizational skills and great attention to detail and accuracy, problem analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Interpersonal Skills
Be a team player who is flexible and accepts changing assignments and accountabilities.
Display excellent interpersonal skills.
Certifications: Complete and maintain Idahoan Foods forklift.
Other Details
Work Environment: This position requires the ability to perform various physical activities such as heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing on concrete floors for extended periods of time, moving parts, and loud noise levels. Will be required to work in the boiler room, which may be cramped and is very often hot and extremely noisy. Must be able to work with sanitizers and cleaning chemicals. Must be able to work various shifts as assigned. Cleans job site and tools. Stores tools and equipment in designated places in an orderly manner. Works on ladders, scaffolds, forklift cages, and in pits using proper safety precautions. Wears personal protective equipment as needed for assigned tasks.
