THE STARTING SALARY FOR THE UM TRAINEE POSITION IS $17.90
Performs entry-level work. Work involves utilizing physical labor to assist in water and wastewater repairs, replacement, excavation, meter installation and taps. Operating equipment associated with maintenance and construction of water and sewer main projects. Maintaining and operating the City's wastewater treatment plant system in a safe, effective, and efficient manner, using technical expertise that follows generally accepted practices and procedures. Workers must be able to be scheduled for "on-call" rotation. This position is subject to "DOT random drug testing". Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
Essential Duties & Required Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or its equivalent.
Valid Class "C" Drivers License from TX or any other US state (Approximately 80% driving time in a company vehicle.)
Required Certificates and Licenses
Must have a TCEQ Class "I" Collection License and/or a TCEQ "D" Water.
Must have or must obtain a basic first aid certificate within 9 months of the hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
One or more years work experience in any aspect of construction/repair, water/wastewater repair, plumbing, apprentice or related experience.
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or technical school in a related field.
Experience working for a government entity such as a City, County, or a State agency.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and push, pull, drag up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; extreme cold and extreme heat; dust and fumes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally loud.
