Piper Companies is seeking a Utility Engineer to support operations within an advanced life sciences manufacturing environment. The Utility Engineer will play a critical role in maintaining essential facility systems that enable the safe, efficient, and compliant production of innovative medicines. This is an onsite position located in Durham, North Carolina.
Responsibilities of the Utility Engineer
Oversee the functionality and reliability of utility, HVAC, and electrical systems that support manufacturing processes
Provide hands-on engineering support for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical site infrastructure
Coordinate and execute change control activities to ensure systems remain in a validated and compliant state
Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation including procedures, specifications, and maintenance plans
Identify system performance gaps, lead root cause investigations, and implement long-term improvements to enhance reliability
Qualifications of the Utility Engineer
Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant experience, OR associate degree/certification with 7+ years of experience, OR 9+ years of hands-on experience supporting engineering, maintenance, or automation systems in regulated industries
Experience supporting utilities, HVAC, or electrical infrastructure within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or similarly regulated environments
Demonstrated ability to maintain facility systems in a qualified or validated state in alignment with regulatory expectations
Strong technical writing experience with the ability to generate and review controlled documentation
Hands-on troubleshooting experience with complex systems, including exposure to PLCs and building management systems
Compensation
Salary Range: $155,000 - $175,000 paid out hourly at a rate of $74.52/hr - $84.13/hr
