Description
The Utilities Supervisor for Industrial Waste Control oversees the implementation and enforcement of the Industrial Pretreatment Program to protect wastewater treatment processes, personnel, collection systems, and receiving waters to the POTWs. This position supervises staff, ensures regulatory compliance, and coordinates with industrial users to control pollutant discharges in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., EPA and NPDES requirements).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of standard office and department specific software; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; general knowledge of standard office equipment; general knowledge of standard accounting practices; skill in using assigned equipment; Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey information to persons of varying education and experience levels; Knowledge of principles of chemistry, biology, microbiology, wastewater treatment processes and industrial waste pretreatment processes; Excellent problem-solving abilities and ability to analyze and interpret test results and prepare clear and concise technical and analytical reports; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to compute flows, volumes, weights from data ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented by technical school training related to water and wastewater operations, and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment, industrial pretreatment, environmental compliance, or a related field. Must possess working knowledge of EPA Pretreatment Regulations (40 CFR Part 403) and applicable state regulatory requirements. Supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
A bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred
