    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The City of Redwood City Public Works Services Department invites you to apply for the position of Utilities Field Services Supervisor in the Tree Section of the Right-of-Way Division. The Tree Section maintains and manages the City's urban forest, including street trees, park trees, and trees on other City owned property, through routine pruning, planting, removal, inspection, and emergency response. The Tree Section also acts as a steward of Redwood City's urban canopy by managing permits for tree pruning and removal following the City's ordinance. Under general direction, the Utilities Field Services Supervisor plans, organizes, supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of assigned crews engaged in tree maintenance, pruning, planting, removal, inspection, and regulatory compliance duties within the City's urban forest. Primary duties include supervising and evaluating performance of assigned staff, scheduling maintenance and repair work, inspecting work for conformance with applicable industry standards and safety requirements, coordinating and inspecting the work of contract tree crews, responding to customer inquiries and requests, participating in emergency and after-hours storm response, managing the tree permit program, and traveling among various worksites to direct, supervise, and evaluate work performed in the field. This position is distinguished from the Public Works Superintendent in that the latter is responsible for the administration and management of a large operational division.
