    Utilities Billing Specialist (100% Remote)
    Contract Length: 12 months
    Pay Rate: $25
     
    Job Summary
    The Billing Specialist is responsible for providing expertise, analysis, and solutions related to complex billing processes, supplier coordination, regulatory requirements, and operational systems within the energy industry. This role serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for billing-related initiatives, ensuring accurate customer billing, improving operational efficiency, supporting system enhancements, and driving process improvements. The Billing Specialist works closely with internal departments, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders to resolve issues, implement controls, and optimize end-to-end meter-to-cash processes.
    Key Responsibilities
    • Analyze and resolve complex billing issues and operational challenges.
    • Serve as a subject matter expert for billing systems, supplier coordination, and ESG-related billing processes.
    • Educate and support stakeholders on end-to-end meter-to-cash processes.
    • Create, maintain, and update detailed process documentation and system procedures.
    • Monitor system control reports, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective actions.
    • Develop and implement new controls to improve billing accuracy and operational efficiency.
    • Provide training, guidance, and knowledge sharing to team members and business partners.
    • Perform account data corrections and repairs to support accurate customer billing.
    • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
    • Investigate and respond to inquiries from internal customers, including Call Center, Business Accounts, and supplier organizations.
    • Identify opportunities to leverage technology and automation to improve business processes.
    • Gather business requirements, develop process flows, perform testing, and support implementation of billing system enhancements.
    • Support regulatory and business-driven projects designed to improve operational performance and reduce costs.
    • Assist in the development of business cases and process improvement initiatives.
    • Prepare clear, concise communications, reports, and documentation with minimal supervision.
    • Facilitate meetings, conduct presentations, and communicate project updates to stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with departments across the organization and maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the energy or utility industry, with experience in one or more of the following areas:
      • Billing Operations
      • ESG/EDI Transactions
      • Credit & Collections
      • Customer Service
      • Business Operations & Planning
      • Regulatory Compliance
      • Finance
    • Knowledge of customer service and billing systems.
    • Understanding of utility billing processes, suppliers, metering, and customer account management.
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Strong presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented environment.
    • Experience with process improvement, system testing, business analysis, and operational excellence
