Electrical Engineering Technician
Location: Andover, MA

Role Overview:
The Electrical Engineering Technician is responsible for the assembly, testing, troubleshooting,
repair, and rework of electronic hardware used in prototype and production medical devices.
The successful candidate will support electrical engineers by building and evaluating printed
circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), cable assemblies, and test fixtures while maintaining high-
quality workmanship and documentation standards.
This position requires strong hands-on electronics skills, including soldering and rework of
surface mount and through-hole components, as well as the ability to work independently once
instructions and objectives are provided.
Key Responsibilities:
Hardware Assembly and Rework (40%)
Assemble prototype and production electronic hardware, including PCBAs, cable
assemblies, and electromechanical systems.
Perform soldering, desoldering, component replacement, and rework of both through-
hole and surface mount devices.
Inspect assemblies for workmanship and compliance with drawings and specifications.
Support engineering investigations by modifying existing hardware and implementing
design updates.
Testing and Troubleshooting (35%)
Build, configure, and operate electrical test setups and fixtures.
Perform functional, verification, validation, and debug testing of electronic circuits and
systems.
Troubleshoot PCBAs and electronic assemblies to the component level.
Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, and other laboratory
equipment to diagnose issues.
Collect and document test results and provide feedback to engineering teams.
Documentation and Laboratory Support (15%)
Maintain accurate records of builds, repairs, test activities, and results.
Support development of work instructions, assembly procedures, and test protocols.
Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a safe, organized work environment.
Assist with inventory management of components, tools, and consumables.
Engineering Support (10%)
Collaborate with engineers to support prototype development and product verification
activities.
Assist with transferring designs from development into manufacturing.
Provide recommendations for improving assembly processes, test methods, and product
reliability.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or
related technical field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Experience:
3+ years of hands-on electronics technician experience.
Experience assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic assemblies.
Experience working with PCBAs and electronic test equipment.
Required Skills:
Excellent soldering and rework skills for both SMT and through-hole components.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and
engineering documentation.
Strong troubleshooting skills for analog and digital electronic circuits.
Proficiency with common electronic laboratory equipment:
o Oscilloscopes
o Digital multimeters
o Power supplies
o Signal generators
o Data acquisition equipment
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision once objectives and instructions
are provided.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in medical device, aerospace, industrial controls, or other regulated
industries.
Experience building cable harnesses and test fixtures.
Knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
Familiarity with design verification testing and engineering prototype development.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing bench work.
Ability to use microscopes, soldering stations, and precision hand tools.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (11 kg) occasionally.
