Job Summary:
SUNY Upstate is seeking a highly motivated Medical Office Assistant (MOA) to join the Upstate Urology Team. Under the direction of the RN or licensed provider, the MOA will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team approach to deliver quality care. Position performs, clinical, laboratory and clerical support activities.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Prepare exam rooms for patients before, during and after examinations or procedures.
Take patient vital signs, such as heights, weight, and blood pressure.
Review medication lists and obtain medication authorization.
Maintain sufficient patient flow by coordinating and monitoring patient schedules.
Verify insurance coverage and necessary authorizations of services.
Demonstrate competency in registration process, initiate, prepare and maintain medical records , schedule future tests/appointments and retrieve results.
Must be able to complete multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner, demonstrate proper phone technique and etiquette as well as maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
Will provide other clerical and clinical support as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an approved Medical Office Assistant program or one year of directly related Medical Assistant experience.
Excellent communication and customer service skills required.
Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office procedures.
Experience with electronic medical records.
CPR required at time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with Epic.
Experience with urological patients in an outpatient practice setting preferred.
