Job Description

The QC Scientist I performs hands-on bench testing to support the development and release of multisource pharmaceutical products. This role focuses on chemical and physical analyses, including sample preparation, wet chemistry, standard weighing, and dilutions, with progressive training on HPLC and GC techniques. The QC Scientist I provides analytical support for registration material release, regulatory submissions, and method validation and transfer activities, ensuring all work complies with cGXP standards and internal procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine bench testing, including sample preparation, wet chemistry, standard weighing, and dilutions, in support of product development and quality control activities.
• Conduct chemical and physical analyses to support the development of manufacturable multisource pharmaceutical products.
• Provide analytical support for the release of registration materials associated with regulatory submissions.
• Assist with analytical method validation and transfer activities to ensure methods are robust, reliable, and suitable for their intended use.
• Execute assigned analytical tasks related to product development, registration lot release, and pre- and post-regulatory submission activities within established timelines.
• Work in compliance with cGXP guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and company practices.
• Accurately document analytical activities, observations, and results in a timely, right-first-time manner, maintaining data integrity at all times.
• Follow written analytical procedures and protocols, ensuring consistent and reproducible execution of methods.
• Identify execution challenges with analytical methods and actively support troubleshooting activities to resolve technical issues.
• Train over time on HPLC and GC techniques and apply these methods to support quality control and development testing.
• Work across both Oral Dose Solids and Nasals departments, adapting to different product types and testing requirements.
• Collaborate effectively within a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks and project objectives.
• Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting, prioritizing work to meet deadlines and project timelines.
• Communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal formats to share results, issues, and recommendations.
• Exercise sound scientific judgment and professional competency while working under supervision.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in a science field is required.
• Preferred bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry; candidates with degrees in Biology, Microbiology, or Pharmaceutical Science will be considered with strong chemistry laboratory experience.
• Prior laboratory experience is required; experience may be gained through academic laboratory courses or research.
• Strongly preferred experience working in a laboratory environment outside of academia.
• Hands-on experience with sample preparation, wet chemistry techniques, standard weighing, and dilutions.
• Foundational understanding of chemical testing and quality control principles.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Capability to manage and work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills to document and present analytical work clearly.
• Ability to work with supervision while applying scientific judgment and maintaining professional competency.
• Commitment to following cGXP guidelines, SOPs, and company practices, with strong attention to data integrity and documentation accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Exposure to biochemistry concepts and techniques is beneficial.
• Experience with quality control processes in a pharmaceutical or related environment is an advantage.
• Familiarity with chemical testing in a regulated environment is preferred.
• Interest in developing skills with HPLC and GC, with willingness to undergo training and apply these techniques.
• Ability to identify challenges in analytical method execution and contribute to troubleshooting efforts.
• Strong organizational skills to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to different product types, such as oral dose solids and nasal formulations.
• Motivation to grow within a large pharmaceutical manufacturing organization with opportunities for internal promotion and career development.

Work Environment

This role operates in a fast-paced pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality environment. The QC Scientist I spends most of the time in laboratory settings within the quality group, performing bench testing and analytical work, and will occasionally work in the manufacturing area as needed. Work is conducted under cGXP guidelines with established SOPs, work instructions, and company practices, using standard laboratory equipment and techniques such as wet chemistry, sample preparation, and, over time, HPLC and GC. The position is on second shift, Monday through Friday, from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with some flexibility. The schedule begins as five 8-hour days and can transition to a four 10-hour day schedule after training. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
