    Summary:

    The Distribution Center Supervisor - Kit Receiving oversees all receiving operations for furniture kits on the 2nd shift, ensuring timely and accurate receipt of inbound kit shipments while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity. This frontline leadership role plans, directs, and assigns work activities in the kit receiving department, supporting and implementing policies and procedures while recommending improvements in operation methods, equipment, people, materials, and working conditions. The Supervisor drives operational efficiency through data-driven decisions, continuous improvement initiatives, and effective team development while partnering with transportation, inventory, and warehouse teams to optimize the flow of kits into the distribution center.

    Responsibilities:

    Kit Receiving Operations Leadership

    • Plan, direct, and assign work activities in the kit receiving department to optimize productivity and meet receiving targets

    • Oversee all kit receiving operations including unloading, inspection, verification, documentation, and putaway activities

    • Coordinate daily receiving schedules to align with inbound kit shipment arrivals and warehouse capacity

    • Monitor receiving productivity and ensure team meets or exceeds performance targets for kits received per hour

    • Ensure accurate receipt of all inbound kit shipments including verification of piece counts, carton quantities, SKU accuracy, and order documentation

    • Verify kit completeness by ensuring all components and pieces are accounted for according to kit specifications

    • Coordinate with transportation teams on carrier scheduling, dock assignments, and trailer movements

    • Manage dock door assignments and optimize trailer flow to minimize wait times and maximize throughput

    Quality & Accuracy

    • Ensure all received kits are inspected for damage, defects, missing pieces, and compliance with quality standards

    • Verify inbound kit shipments against purchase orders, advanced shipping notices (ASN), packing lists, and bill of lading documentation

    • Conduct piece count verification to ensure kit completeness and accuracy

    • Process discrepancies including shortages, overages, damages, missing components, and quality issues through appropriate systems

    • Generate quality alerts and coordinate with Quality Assurance teams on product issues and kit discrepancies

    • Ensure proper labeling, identification, and documentation of all received kit inventory

    • Maintain kit receiving accuracy targets and implement controls to prevent errors

    Team Leadership & Development

    • Lead, train, and develop a team of kit receiving associates to build technical skills and operational excellence

    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, feedback, and developmental guidance

    • Make employment decisions and recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations

    • Foster a positive team environment focused on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement

    • Manage staffing levels and coordinate breaks, lunches, and coverage to maintain productivity

    • Communicate company and departmental goals through daily huddles, team meetings, and one-on-one coaching sessions

    Safety & Compliance

    • Champion all safety programs and ensure a safe work environment for all kit receiving associates

    • Conduct safety walks, audits, and inspections within the kit receiving area

    • Ensure employees wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and follow safety compliance protocols

    • Investigate incidents and accidents, document findings, and implement corrective actions

    • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and kit receiving standard operating procedures

    • Promote safe operation of material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and dock equipment

    Process Improvement & Optimization

    • Support and implement policies and procedures while recommending improvements in operation methods, equipment, people, materials, and working conditions

    • Lead process improvement events such as Kaizens to enhance kit receiving efficiency and reduce errors

    • Implement best practices and standardized work procedures to optimize kit receiving operations

    • Analyze data to identify trends, root causes of kit discrepancies, and improvement opportunities

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system upgrades, process changes, and operational initiatives

    Inventory Management & System Accuracy

    • Ensure accurate and timely receipt transactions in the warehouse management system (WMS)

    • Partner with Inventory leadership to discuss kit receiving gaps, discrepancies, and system accuracy issues

    • Coordinate putaway activities to ensure received kit inventory is properly stored in designated kit storage locations

    • Monitor inventory location accuracy and implement controls to prevent kit misplacement or component separation

    • Support cycle counting and physical inventory activities within the kit receiving and storage areas

    Resource Management

    • Manage resources to optimize equipment, dock doors, employees, methods, and materials

    • Ensure kit receiving equipment is well-maintained and in proper working condition

    • Coordinate with Maintenance on equipment repairs and preventive maintenance

    • Control operational costs while maintaining productivity and service quality

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

    • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or distribution center environment required

    • Previous supervisory experience preferred

    • Experience with manufacturing or warehouse equipment and department processes desired

    • Strong understanding of receiving processes including unloading, inspection, verification, documentation, and putaway

    • Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory management principles

    • Excellent leadership and team management skills with ability to motivate and develop employees

    • Strong attention to detail with ability to verify piece counts and kit completeness accurately

    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities

    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)

    • Understanding of OSHA safety regulations and warehouse safety best practices

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions quickly

    • Physical ability to walk distribution center floors, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed

    • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification

    • Ability to work 2nd shift hours

    Additional Qualifications, Preferred:

    • Associates degree in Supervisory Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field

    • 3-5 years of kit receiving or inbound operations supervisory experience in furniture, retail, or distribution

    • Experience with SAP, Manhattan, or similar enterprise warehouse management systems

    • Knowledge of furniture kit components, assembly requirements, and handling procedures

    • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)

    • Experience with labor management systems (LMS) and engineered labor standards

    • Background in process improvement methodologies including Kaizen and 5S

    • Understanding of transportation operations and carrier management

    • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) to support diverse workforce

    Work Environment:

    This position is located in an active industrial manufacturing and distribution center with moderate to high noise levels, temperature variations, and material handling equipment in operation. The role requires extended periods of standing or walking on concrete floors, primarily in the kit receiving dock area. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and steel-toed boots is required. The fast-paced environment involves time-sensitive and safety-sensitive operations on the 2nd shift with exposure to outdoor weather conditions during trailer unloading activities.
