Up to $60/Hour BOE + $20,000 Sign-On Bonus

Pathologists’ Assistant Job Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens

• Prepare and submit tissue specimens for histologic processing and microscopic examination

• Accurately describe, measure, photograph, section, and document surgical specimens

• Select appropriate tissue sections for diagnostic evaluation

• Assist pathologists with complex surgical specimens and anatomic pathology procedures

• Perform or assist with postmortem examinations when applicable

• Maintain accurate specimen identification, documentation, and quality control standards

• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of biological specimens

• Follow laboratory safety, infection control, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements

• Assist with frozen sections and other intraoperative pathology procedures as needed

• Support pathology department quality assurance and process improvement initiatives

• Collaborate closely with pathologists, histotechnologists, laboratory staff, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals

• Maintain an organized and efficient grossing work environment

Education & Certification Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Graduate of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program strongly preferred

• PA(ASCP) certification required or eligibility to obtain certification based on employer requirements

• Master’s degree in a Pathologists’ Assistant program preferred

• Previous experience in surgical pathology, gross examination, or anatomic pathology preferred

• Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathology terminology, tissue sampling, and laboratory procedures

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with pathologists and laboratory personnel

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Pathologists’ Assistant in a hospital or clinical laboratory environment

• Experience grossing a broad range of complex surgical specimens

• Strong knowledge of laboratory quality and safety standards

• Ability to manage multiple specimens and priorities in a fast-paced pathology department

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
