The AV Fleet Technician serves as the vital, onsite "smart remote hands" for our centralized Software Engineering and Hardware Engineering teams. Located at our regional data collection depots, this role is responsible for the technical upkeep, diagnostic triage, and operational readiness of our Autonomous Vehicle (AV) data collection fleets.
Rather than executing blind labor, these technicians monitor incoming sensor/system alerts, communicate actively with remote engineering teams, follow highly technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and proactively troubleshoot complex hardware-to-software integrations directly on the vehicles.
Core Responsibilities (Both Levels)
Smart Remote Hands (Vehicle-Side): Serve as the onsite eyes, ears, and hands for remote engineers; perform physical triage, sensor swaps, and manual interventions on the vehicle platform.
AV System Validation & Testing: Execute documented validation, testing, and flashing workflows for complex autonomous sensor suites (LiDAR, Radar, Cameras, IMUs) and vehicle compute units.
Sensor Calibration & Alignment: Execute physical and software-based calibration routines (e.g., target/chart alignment, intrinsic/extrinsic sensor calibrations) to ensure data accuracy before vehicles deploy.
Alert & Communication Management: Actively monitor Slack, Jira, and internal telemetry dashboards for system alerts, hardware faults, and incoming depot tickets.
Software/Firmware Provisioning: Flash firmware, update drivers, install software packages, and run validation scripts via Linux command-line interfaces (CLI) to prepare vehicles for daily collection routes.
Documentation & Tracking: Accurately log sensor calibrations, test outcomes, vehicle uptime metrics, and asset movements in designated inventory systems.
Resource Qualifications
Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in advanced hardware validation, enterprise hardware maintenance, or complex electromechanical systems troubleshooting.
AV/Robotics Domain Knowledge: Proven experience working with autonomous vehicle components (LiDAR, Radar, Cameras, CAN bus, or GPS/IMU systems) or complex multi-layered hardware integrations.
OS & Scripting Proficiencies: Proficient in Linux CLI navigation and system diagnostics (e.g., viewing log files, checking system processes, managing network interfaces). Ability to read and interpret basic scripts (Bash, Python).
Advanced Troubleshooting: Demonstrated capability to isolate faults in environments where the issue could be mechanical (loose bracket), physical (damaged FAKRA/Ethernet cable), or digital (firmware mismatch/network drop).
