Unit Supervisor understands and implements policies according to agency standards, effectively works as a member of an interdisciplinary team, and supervises direct care staff. Provides direct childcare services, ensures that twenty-four hour, seven days a week, child care services are met.

What is the Caminos Nacional program?

BCC received a federal grant to provide residential services for children who enter the United States but who are without a guardian. This population is commonly referred to as “unaccompanied children.” The grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). Delivering this service helps BCC fulfill its purpose: enriching communities, one family at a time.

The Caminos Nacional program works with subgrantees to provide safe, secure placement options for children who have recently migrated to the United States and are seeking opportunities for reunification with family as well as the chance to pursue their education and legal immigration cases.

It has evolved and adapted from a traditional orphanage that opened 140+ years ago to being a leader in providing high-quality behavioral health, educational, and residential services across the Mid-Atlantic.

Board of Child Care is not a federal or state agency. It is an independent not-for-profit organization that partners with the Federal government to serve unaccompanied minors.

Serving over 1,000 youth and families annually, BCC's programs support the healing of past trauma and seek to empower youth and families to flourish within their community.

 Essential Functions:

• Model and act in accordance with BCC’s core values.
• Demonstrate and practice trauma-informed leadership.
• Contributes to the prevention and management of challenging behaviors by implementing the Board of Child Care’s behavior management and therapeutic crisis intervention techniques.
• Promotes effective communication through the timely submission of documentation and weekly team meetings.
• Participates as a member of each resident’s Interdisciplinary Treatment Team for the purpose of treatment/discharge planning and reviews. Must effectively communicate both written and verbally with the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.
• Provides transportation for residents as required.
• On a rotating basis, provides effective campus supervision by fulfilling campus supervisory responsibilities at least once per week and provides on-call campus supervisor coverage on assigned weekends.
• Develops therapeutic activities that are consistent with the age and level of functioning of each resident.
• Ensures that the staff to resident ratio is adequate and consistent with the agency policy and unit needs by providing coverage in units as necessary.
• Ensures accurate medication administration, documentation, and safe storage of medication in accordance with the guidelines of the State of Maryland’s Medication Administration.
• Ensures that each direct care staff successfully completes forty hours of professional training per year of employment to effectively meet their position responsibilities.
• Provides direct feedback to direct care staff through written supervisions, annual and six-month evaluations.

Required Education and Experience:

• A bachelor’s degree with 1 year of supervisory or management experience.
