Description

This is a true HR Business Partner opportunity supporting a highly visible manufacturing facility with union employees. The role offers broad exposure across employee relations, labor relations, investigations, workers' compensation, leave management, and leadership coaching.

This position is four days per week on-site in Alameda County, including one day supporting third-shift operations to maintain visibility and partnership across all production shifts.

Working closely with plant leadership and a unionized workforce, you'll play a critical role in shaping the employee experience while driving operational success.

You'll be the go-to resource for employee relations, labor relations, investigations, coaching, workers' compensation, leave administration, and performance management. Partnering directly with operations leaders, you'll help solve real business challenges, navigate complex employee situations, and ensure a positive and productive workplace. The role offers significant autonomy and visibility, allowing you to make an immediate impact while serving as a trusted advisor across the facility.

The ideal candidate enjoys being on the plant floor, building relationships with employees at all levels, and working hands-on to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation. You'll have the opportunity to engage with leadership, participate in labor relations activities, support a unionized workforce, and influence key people decisions that directly affect business performance.

Prior union experience with strong labor relations experience is required.

Description

  • Serve as the primary HR Business Partner for a unionized manufacturing facility, supporting both employees and operational leadership
  • Partner closely with plant managers and supervisors to address employee relations, performance, attendance, and workplace concerns
  • Manage and conduct workplace investigations, documenting findings and recommending appropriate actions
  • Support disciplinary processes, corrective actions, and policy administration
  • Participate in grievance meetings and collaborate with union representatives on labor relations matters
  • Provide guidance on collective bargaining agreement interpretation and contract-related questions
  • Coach leaders on employee management, conflict resolution, and best HR practices
  • Support workers' compensation, leave administration, and return-to-work processes
  • Maintain a strong presence on the plant floor, building relationships with employees across all shifts
  • Support engagement, retention, and workforce initiatives within the plant
  • Provide regular third-shift coverage to ensure HR visibility and support across the facility's 24/7 operation

Profile

A successful HRBP should have:

  • 3+ years of supporting a unionized environment
  • Experience participating in grievance meetings and labor relations matters
  • Demonstrated success handling employee relations issues, workplace investigations, and disciplinary processes
  • Ability to coach managers through performance management and employee concerns
  • Strong understanding of HR policies, compliance, and employment practices
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing, industrial, distribution, or unionized operations environment
  • Proven ability to build relationships with both leadership and front-line employees
  • Bilingual Spanish skills preferred but not required
  • Ability to work on-site four days per week, including weekly third-shift coverage
