    Job Description:
    Our client has a new opportunity for an Underwriting Manager. Reporting to the Vice President of Underwriting and Chief Underwriting Officer, this full-time position will manage and coordinate underwriting and policy issuance activities.


    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with the development, design, implementation and administration of underwriting programs, policies, guidelines and practices.

    • Communicate directly with the company’s business partners and serve as a principal contact for underwriting department issues.

    • Provide technical assistance and review complex risks and programs to ensure compliance, consistency and profitability.

    • Review and approve, modify, or decline complex and/or unusual risks referred by underwriters.

    • Assist in the analysis and organization of department operations and procedures. Evaluate department metrics and continually seek to improve workflow efficiency.

    • Negotiate facultative reinsurance agreements, and assign facultative underwriting and binding authority.

    • Work with the compliance/product development department on endorsement and policy development, including rate and form filings with all applicable regulatory agencies.

    • Assist in providing periodic reports to the company’s board of directors by accurately portraying the underwriting department’s activities and status.

    • Participate with other senior managers in the development of company strategy or personally complete special projects and reports as required.

    • Ensure department employees pursue continuing education and training, and be personally available to department personnel for questions and problem resolution.

    • Conduct performance reviews of department staff, communicate job expectations and provide coaching, guidance and evaluation of individual performance.


    Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent business experience

    • Strong background in directors and officers liability and/or professional liability

    • Indiana resident insurance agent licenses in property/casualty (including surplus lines license) or the ability to acquire these in an expedient manner; licensing in other states is also required

    • Prior supervisory experience

    • Excess and surplus lines, and financial institutions experience

    • Ability to travel 5-10% of the time, which may involve overnight or weekend travel

    • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and MVR
