Coast Electric is currently seeking applicants for an Underground Apprentice Lineman to assist in the construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of underground power lines. Work is performed according to Rural Utility Services (RUS) specifications and procedures and according to OSHA regulations. This position reports to the Harrison County District Office.MISSION STATEMENT:We exist to safely provide our member-owners with superior service and dependable electricity at the lowest possible price and to improve the economy and quality of life in our community.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Entry-level position with the potential to progress to Underground Journeyman LinemanAssist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of distribution power linesLearn basics of line construction work and become familiar with the proper classification and terminology of tools and materials and the use of various toolsLearn and apply RUS specifications, National Electric Code standards, and utility safety proceduresLearn basic operations and maintenance of hydraulic equipmentLearn to install commonly used wire and conduit in trench, install ground rod at single-phase pad-mount, and install cable guard on single-phase riser poleAssist in making up hand line and coil hand line for storageAssist in locating and repairing underground primary cable faultsSupport storm restoration and emergency response effortsTrim trees and brush as needed for line construction and maintenanceWork on-call and overtime as requiredJOB REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or equivalent is required; high school diploma preferredUtility Lineman Certificate or six (6) months of experience working in the utility industry requiredValid Class A Commercial Driver's License requiredMust reside within twenty-five (25) miles of the Gulfport District Office, or within Harrison County, or be willing to relocate into service area. Ability to climb, using the feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Good sense of balance and ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Dexterity in reaching, handling, fingering, and/or feeling. Ability to speak clearly and concisely and to communicate danger and problems in an expedient manner so that others can hear and understand and ability to hear messages and commands spoken by others. Ability to obtain impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, color, or other characteristics of objects.
