    Job Description

    General Purpose of Job:

    Manages individualized, goal directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

    Essential Duties:

    This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

    • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
    • Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other in order to address all identified needs.
    • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
    • Evaluates the identified problems, care provided and patient's responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to assure overall quality of care delivered.
    • Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to ensure quality care.
    • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
    • Pursues professional growth and development.
    • Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
    • Demonstrates leadership behaviors in a professional manner.
    • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
    • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
    • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
    • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
    • Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities in accordance with established standards.
    • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
    • Attendance at annual skills presentation and other mandatory meetings/in-services (fire, infection control). Attends regularly scheduled unit meetings. Attendance at unit meetings is highly recommended. Attendance allows for clarification and discussion of items pertinent to the Hospital and unit. The associate is 100% responsible for the meeting minutes/contents and must sign that they have read the meeting minutes and had the opportunity to ask questions of their manager. The associate will be held accountable for and discussed changes in policy and procedure whether unit specific or Hospital wide.
    • Fourteen hours of in-service credits. Nine must pertain to the clinical area of practice (attach documentation)
    • Completed 12 chart audits per year
    • Actively participates in Quality activities.

    Job Requirements

    General Requirements • ACLS and BLS Certification • Current License in the State of Michigan • Chemotherapy Certification and/or be able to obtain within 45 days of hire Work Experience • None • Preferred - EPIC; Infusion Center Experience; Oncology Experience Education • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. • Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills. • Willingness to crossflow to other clinical areas as needed and/or directed by leadership
