POSITION SUMMARY: Performs diagnostic ultrasound studies in accordance with American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTSEducation: Associates Degree in Ultrasound or equivalent training. Graduate of a Radiology Technology or Allied Health Sciences program.Experience: Minimum two (2) years' experience, experience in ultrasound, currently qualified and/or certified in ultrasound.Skill and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position: Ability to communicate effectively with the patients, health center staff and the public.Ability to produce high quality ultrasounds.Ability to apply principals of sonography to select the appropriate transducer frequency.Ability to operate a computer.Good oral and written communication skills including preparation of reports.Able to perform 10 to 12 ultrasounds daily.Demonstrate knowledge and skills in providing age-appropriate care.Manual dexterity to adjust machine controls and supportive devices.License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Current (ARDMS) American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography CertificationCurrent CPR certificateTransportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile, with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.FUNCTIONS OF THE JOBEssential FunctionsPerforms all ultrasound procedures in accordance with established protocols and ACR standards. Explains procedures to patients and maintains ultrasound room with adequate and necessary supplies.Ensures equipment is disinfected according to the Infection Control policies and procedures.Ensures that Ultrasonic Transmission Gel is properly utilized to minimize the risk of infection to the patient.Performs 10 to 12 ultrasounds daily.Must be able to float to any of the Affinia Healthcare Centers at any given time for work assignments.Takes medical history and ensures appropriate patient communication.Positions patients properly for each exam and selects the appropriate transducer frequency for the production of high quality ultrasounds.Process and check all completed ultrasounds for high quality, checking for proper density, correct anatomy is marked with appropriate markers, patient name and examination date on each ultrasound.Maintains all required documentation associated with the ultrasound exam.Must be able to follow physician instructions to obtain optimal images for diagnosis.Utilize the (ALARA) "as low as reasonably achievable" principle to avoid excessive ultrasonic exposure.Operates the ultrasound computer system and enters the official interpretation into the patient's medical record for provider review.Performs safety checks on ultrasound equipment and reports malfunctions to the appropriate persons.Assist in the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies to ensure OSHA guidelines are met.Ability to handle patients safely and in a proper manner.Perform other duties as assigned.Marginal Functions: NoneSupervises: NoneNOTE: SMOKING IS PROHIBITED IN THE WORK ENVIRONMENTNOTE: ALL APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THREE REFERENCESAN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY SERVICES PROVIDED ON A NON-DISCRIMINATORY BASIS
