With limited direction, this position participates with management and engineering to establish objectives, plans, and timelines for the development of comprehensive technical documents such as procedure manuals, operational specifications, training manuals, presentations, articles and related technical publications. Reviews and negotiates document specifications with customers and ensures final documents clearly and effectively communicate technical information and data. Reviews product systems, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. Investigates and analyzes project requirements and complex operating problems and develops recommended solutions to meet company governmental safety and performance standards. Investigates and resolves problem areas and collaborates with engineering, operations and maintenance personnel to document technical solutions. Leads the development of and monitors the implementation of technical documentation policies, practices, and standards. Acts as a spokesperson on matters related to technical documentation. Provides direction and guidance to less experienced professional or technical staff. May make recommendations to management on short and long term planning.

Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to the completion of a bachelor's degree and nine or more years of professional engineering/military technical experience and/or professional in-depth engineering/military documentation experience. In addition, must have two or more years of management/customer interface. Equivalent professional engineering/military technical experience or military operations and maintenance experience may be substituted in lieu of education/training.
Must demonstrate a comprehensive and thorough understanding of the engineering/military principles underlying the technology, an excellent working knowledge of the engineering development process, and a thorough understanding of logistic support analysis, principles and procedures.
Must possess:

The ability to obtain and maintain DOD secret clearance required.
