Position Summary:
The University of Northern Colorado is seeking motivated individuals for a temporary Seasonal Sprots Field Assistant role. This position offers hands-on experience supporting a wide range of athletic and recreational activities across campus facilities. The successful candidate will gain practical skills in sports turf management while assisting with the preparation and maintenance of fields used for practices, games, and special events.
Job Duties:
Field Maintenance:
Mow, edge, and trim grass on athletic fields and surrounding areas
Prepare baseball and softball fields, including dragging infields and lining fields
Repair damaged turf and reseed high-traffic or worn areas
Maintain synthetic turf surfaces through brushing and debris removal
Irrigation & Watering:
Operate and monitor irrigation systems
Adjust watering schedules based on weather conditions and field needs
Assist with minor irrigation maintenance and repairs
Game & Event Preparation:
Set up and break down equipment for games and practices (e.g., bases, goals, benches)
Ensure fields meet safety and playability standards prior to events
Assist with tournament and event setup across multiple campus venues
Equipment & Facility Care:
Clean, maintain, and store tools and equipment properly
Report equipment malfunctions and safety hazards promptly
Help maintain organized and safe storage areas
General Groundskeeping:
Remove trash and debris from fields, sidelines, and spectator areas
Assist with landscaping tasks such as mulching and shrub trimming
Support general campus grounds maintenance efforts
Work Environment & Supervision
Work is performed outdoors in varied weather conditions
Position operates under the direction of full-time landscape and grounds professionals
Minimum Qualifications:
Interest in athletics, landscaping, turf management, or facilities operations
Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and prolonged outdoor work
Strong attention to detail and reliability
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must possess a valid Driver's License for a minimum of 2 years. Will be required to drive a university vehicle to transport, supplies and tools.
Preferred Abilities, Skill or Talents:
Individuals who have general experience with lawn and landscape care or programmed athletic participation.
