    Job Story
    Tutors provides high‑quality academic support to undergraduate participants in the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services STEM Program. Tutors assist students in strengthening their understanding of course content, developing effective learning strategies, and building confidence in their academic abilities.

    Job Summary
    A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

    Job Duties
    Provide individual and small group tutoring in assigned subject areas.
    Help students understand key concepts, work through problems, and develop effective study and problem solving strategies.
    Adapt tutoring approaches to meet the needs of STEM and health professions students.

    Required Education
    High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

    Additional Requirements
    Education: Minimum Sophomore standing; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; has achieved a
    grade of “B” or better in tutored courses.

    Required Experience
    This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Prior tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or peer‑education experience.
    Experience supporting first‑generation, low‑income, or students with disabilities.

    Physical Requirements
    Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
