Major/Essential Functions

An employee in this role is expected to contribute to the day-to-day research activities of the Center for Pulsed Power and Power Electronics and the Critical Infrastructure and Security Institute with technical expertise in engineering and applied science. The employee is expected to both support and execute research activities through direct involvement in engineering tasks of experimental design and execution. This role will include close coordination with faculty, students, and technical staff and machinists. The employee will be expected to produce designs, programs/code and systems required to meet deliverables for externally sponsored research. The ability to work in teams across multiple levels, work independently, and work in coordination with and support training of students is crucial to this role. The employee will be expected to meet deadlines and interface with project sponsors. 
  • Participate in project coordination meetings, assist in scoping out work, and receiving and executing on received tasks
  • Contribute to the completion of research milestones
  • Report research activities to project sponsors
  • Coordinate with faculty and staff for the execution of research
  • Coordination and collaboration with undergraduate and graduate student researchers in the execution of day-to-day research activities.

Required Qualifications

Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a researcher. Should have a record of activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of research.

Must possess the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance from the Department of Defense. This includes having U.S. citizenship and undergoing a background check and fingerprint clearance process by a separate agency.

This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.
