Senior Oracle Database & Jasper Reports Developer
Remote | 12+ Month Contract

iSphere is looking for a Senior Oracle Database & Jasper Reports Developer to support a large statewide education data environment serving roughly 1,200 Texas school districts.

This is a senior development role for someone who is very comfortable working deep in Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, reporting, and data analysis. You will be supporting and improving an existing database and reporting environment, fixing production issues, developing enhancements, and making sure the data and reports coming out of the system are accurate.

The work supports IT-SEDS, the Information Technology – Statewide Education Data System, so this is not a small application with a handful of users. The reports and data coming out of this environment matter to a lot of people across the state.

You will work through a defined SDLC using an Agile-like development process, participate in releases, handle development and unit testing, document your work, and collaborate with multiple agency stakeholders to make sure changes do what they are supposed to do.

What we need:

• 8+ years of experience designing, coding, and supporting solutions using Oracle SQL and PL/SQL

• Strong stored procedure development experience

• 8+ years of unit testing experience

• 8+ years working in Agile development environments

• 5+ years of Jasper Reports development experience

• Strong data aggregation and analysis skills

• Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex database and reporting issues

• Ability to work independently, manage assigned scope, and keep stakeholders informed on progress

Experience with JIRA and Bitbucket is preferred.

A big part of this role will be supporting Core and PEIMS-related projects, resolving bugs, developing and updating Jasper reports, completing database changes, and participating in development and release activities.

We are looking for someone who can look at a complicated data problem and start figuring it out instead of immediately asking for a meeting about the meeting. You should be comfortable working through large datasets, tracing issues back to the source, and making changes carefully enough that fixing one problem does not create three new ones.
