Description

Overview:

We are hiring an experienced, highly responsible, and execution-driven Trucking Operations Manager to take full charge of fleet operations, including dispatch, driver management, fleet maintenance oversight, safety compliance, vendor relations, and operating cost controls.

The ideal candidate possesses strong trucking operations experience and a solid understanding of commercial truck mechanics and routine maintenance. When complex repair issues arise, you must be capable of performing initial troubleshooting, coordinating with third-party vendors, and auditing repair plans, quotes, and billing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee overall daily operations and management of the trucking division.
  • Manage vehicle dispatching; schedule drivers, trucks, and freight loads efficiently.
  • Track daily container pull/pickup, return, delivery status, and handle operational delays to ensure on-time performance.
  • Manage driver recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, attendance, and daily communications.
  • Monitor driver performance; resolve issues regarding tardiness, absenteeism, safety violations, or customer complaints.
  • Enforce compliance with DOT, FMCSA, ELD (Electronic Logging Devices), HOS (Hours of Service), and highway safety regulations.
  • Perform regular fleet checks; formulate preventive maintenance and repair schedules for tractors and trailers.
  • Possess fundamental diagnostic judgment regarding mechanical truck issues (tires, brakes, batteries, electrical circuits, engine lights, etc.).
  • Determine whether a vehicle meets road safety standards or requires immediate Out-of-Service grounding.
  • Liaise with and manage vendor relationships: repair facilities, roadside assistance providers, tire vendors, etc.
  • Audit repair proposals, price quotes, invoices, and service records to verify work authenticity, necessity, and fair pricing.
  • Maintain vehicle documentation, insurance policies, annual inspections, registrations, and maintenance histories.
  • Manage operational expenses (fuel cards, tolls, maintenance costs) to enforce strict cost controls.
  • Report fleet status, driver performance, repair costs, and operational challenges to senior executive management regularly.
  • Build and standardize workflows for driver management, pre-trip vehicle checks, repair approvals, and invoice audits.
  • Handle night or weekend emergency incidents (roadside breakdowns, driver emergencies, urgent freight re-routing).

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in trucking transport, fleet management, or related logistics sectors; hands-on experience managing drivers, dispatchers, and commercial vehicle maintenance.
  • Experience in Port/Terminal Drayage, container transport, or warehouse cartage is strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engine mechanical structures and common failure modes.
  • Ability to assess repair urgency and communicate effectively with mechanic shops.
  • Thorough knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, ELD, and driver safety compliance rules.
  • Outstanding execution, accountability, and problem-solving skills.
  • High ethical standards; rigorous approach to auditing company expenses and vendor invoices.
  • Computer proficient (email, office software); experience with Motive ELD or PortPro software is strongly preferred.
  • Holding a CDL or having actual commercial driving experience is a plus (not mandatory).
  • Fluent in English to communicate with drivers, clients, repair shops, and vendors effectively.

Candidate Profile Expectations

  • Honest, transparent, and proactive in reporting operational risks.
  • Action-oriented and results-driven-delivers concrete outcomes rather than verbal assurances.
  • Capable of balancing safety/service quality with strict operational cost control.
  • Able to work independently and take ownership under high pressure.
