Job Description

Position Summary: Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the food service area within a truck stop, ensuring exceptional food quality, customer service, food safety, and profitability. This role leads and develops kitchen team members while maintaining efficient operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment that serves professional drivers and travelers.

Responsibilities:

1. Build and develop a strong food service team by: training, scheduling, coaching, offering timely feedback on performance, creating/writing and delivering direct reports' performance reviews, leading by example

2. Interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and developing new hires

3. Ensure quality, food safety, and cleanliness standards are met

4. Control costs (labor, supplies, waste, inventory) to maximize profitability

5. Work side-by-side with your team to deliver exceptional service

6. Oversee vendor check-in, ordering, and inventory control

7. Ensure compliance with safety, security, and company policies

8. Analyze results and implement action plans for improvement

9. Achieve operational excellence, develop performance goals aligned with the Company's Operational Food Service objectives, hit financial goals (sales/expenses to budget/net profit) and strive for year over year improvement.

10. Perform other duties as assigned at the discretion of the District Manager.

11. Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Minimum Education: High school diploma required

Preferred Education: Culinary degree preferred

Minimum Experience:

• 5+ years of leadership experience in kitchen/restaurant management
• Strong cooking and knife skills; ability to manage menu execution
• Proven ability to control food costs and manage inventory
• Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills

Licenses/Certifications:

• ServSafe (or equivalent) certification within 90 days
• Valid state driver's license required

Soft Skills:

• Comfortable talking and interacting with guests and team members
• High energy
• Ability to move from one activity to another quickly
• Team oriented; willing to give extra effort to help others
• Computer skills helpful

Travel: Ability to travel independently 10%; meetings and sometimes to pick up needed supplies

Hours & Conditions: 45 hours per week 8.5 hours/ day

Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver and regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Ability to stand/walk 8 hours a day; reach overhead, bend, squat, twist, reach, grasp and grip and work in cooler (cold temperatures). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
