Description

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Truck Repair & Maintenance Technician responsible for routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs on our fleet of diesel trucks and trailers.

Candidates should have hands-on technical skills to independently handle routine maintenance and minor repairs. For major engine, transmission, or complex mechanical failures, the technician should accurately diagnose issues, offer repair recommendations, and assist in liaising with and supervising third-party repair shops.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance on company diesel trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
  • Establish and execute preventive maintenance schedules based on vehicle mileage and operational usage.
  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, battery servicing, light repairs, wiper replacements, and general servicing.
  • Inspect and repair vehicle systems: brakes, tires, suspension, air lines, electrical wiring, and cooling systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools/scanners to read fault codes and troubleshoot vehicle issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve common issues such as non-starts, oil/air leaks, electrical failures, and dashboard warning lights.
  • Inspect trailer brake systems, tires, lights, doors, frames, and coupling mechanisms (fifth wheel).
  • Assess whether vehicles are safe to operate on the road or require immediate Out-of-Service grounding.
  • Promptly address and fix driver-submitted Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).
  • Assist with pre-DOT Inspection checks and necessary repairs.
  • Coordinate or perform emergency roadside assistance and field repair service callouts.
  • Complete internal repairs promptly to minimize fleet downtime.
  • Perform initial diagnostics on major engine or transmission issues, then coordinate with suitable third-party repair vendors.
  • Review third-party repair plans, parts lists, and quotes to prevent unnecessary or duplicate repair expenses.
  • Inspect repair quality after work completion to verify vehicle safety compliance.
  • Manage inventory of common spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies; maintain meticulous maintenance logs for every vehicle (repairs, parts used, costs).
  • Keep the shop/repair area clean, safe, and organized.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in diesel truck, commercial vehicle, or fleet maintenance.
  • Thorough understanding of diesel truck mechanical structures and preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to independently execute routine inspections, servicing, and basic repairs (brakes, tires, air lines, electrical, batteries, suspension, cooling systems).
  • Capable of using basic mechanical tools and vehicle diagnostic diagnostic scanners.
  • Sound judgment regarding fault severity and vehicle road safety.
  • Knowledge of DOT vehicle safety inspection standards is preferred.
  • Experience in a commercial truck repair shop or in-house fleet maintenance environment is preferred.
  • Experience with trailer and chassis repair is preferred.
  • Able to read basic English technical/repair manuals and communicate effectively with parts suppliers and repair shops.
  • Reliable, hands-on, with strong problem-solving skills and honest reporting habits.
  • Flexible to handle occasional urgent off-hours repairs based on operational demand.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift heavy truck parts and tools; able to bend, squat, climb, and crawl under vehicles for inspections.
  • Ability to work in indoor/outdoor shop environments across various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to support night or weekend emergency repairs when necessary.
