Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Truck Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of locomotive truck systems and components. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong technical proficiency in the automotive and/or rail industry who can work independently, take ownership of projects, and drive technical solutions from concept through implementation. The Truck Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure subsystem designs meet customer, safety, performance, and regulatory requirements while supporting new product development and ongoing fleet reliability initiatives.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Define locomotive truck subsystem architectures, components, and technical specifications in accordance with established engineering processes.
  • Capture, manage, and maintain subsystem requirements while ensuring traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Coordinate interfaces between mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, sourcing, service, and systems engineering teams.
  • Ensure truck subsystem designs meet customer, safety, regulatory, quality, and performance requirements.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including specifications, design records, test plans, validation reports, and engineering change documentation.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), product enhancement, cost-reduction, productivity, service, and reliability projects.
  • Develop and maintain component and subsystem design standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and service organizations to resolve production and field-related issues.
  • Analyze system performance and reliability data to identify opportunities for design improvements and lifecycle cost reductions.
  • Support validation and verification activities, including testing and qualification of truck components and assemblies.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and leverage technical documentation to support training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, customer specifications, and internal engineering requirements.
  • Support project execution, schedule commitments, and business objectives through effective technical leadership and problem-solving.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in the rail, automotive, heavy equipment, transportation, or industrial manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of engineering design principles, product development processes, and systems integration.
  • Ability to independently manage projects and drive technical tasks to completion.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools, technical documentation, and design review processes.
 
Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $54.00 - $54.00 /hr. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages.
