The TRIO Statewide Talent Search Project is a pioneering grant for the University of Alaska system, offering a unique opportunity to provide meaningful support to middle and high school students in both urban and rural communities. Operating within the broader TRIO Programs department at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and collaborating with University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and Kenai Peninsula staff, the Compliance Officer is an integral member of a broader team helping to increase educational access across the state.
The Compliance Officer is responsible for centralized regulatory oversight, database administration, data integrity, and file compliance across all 61 target schools and regional sites (Anchorage, Mat-Su, Kenai Peninsula, and UAF/Interior/Rural) serving 4,000 participants annually. This role serves as the primary technical and regulatory check to ensure that all student records, eligibility verifications, service tracking, and project reporting comply with federal standards established by the U.S. Department of Education, EDGAR, and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
The ideal candidate is a meticulous, highly organized compliance and database professional with a commitment to data precision and federal grant integrity. Combining sharp analytical skills with expertise in federal regulatory frameworks, the candidate excels at systematically monitoring high-volume participant records across geographically dispersed urban and remote sites. They are adept at administering cloud-based database systems, establishing rigorous internal audit schedules, and translating complex federal regulations into clear, operational workflows for project staff. The ideal candidate possesses personal or professional experience overcoming socioeconomic or educational barriers similar to those faced by low-income and potential first-generation students in Alaska, bringing a grounded, mission-driven commitment to educational access and compliance excellence.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, accounting, data analytics, or a closely related field and two years of experience in grant compliance, internal auditing, risk management, regulatory oversight or a related area, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
