Trial Attorney

Location: Glendale, CA

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid remote with occasional in-court appearances (once or twice a quarter)

  • Pay / Salary: $122,000 $184,000 / Year (USD)
  • Annual Bonus: 10% target bonus

Job Summary

This role investigates and manages Workers' Compensation cases from inception until conclusion through dismissal, settlement, or trial. The attorney works with adjusters and clients to resolve claims as expeditiously and efficiently as possible. This is a Full Time / Exempt role. The position is primarily remote and seeks candidates located on the West Coast, with court appearances required once or twice a quarter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle a caseload of Workers' Compensation cases
  • Meet with clients and claims professionals to resolve cases in the most cost-effective manner
  • Answer and develop theories and affirmative defenses
  • Engage in routine motion practice, discovery, and research
  • Handle routine depositions, hearings, conferences, and Trials
  • Travel to the boards as required

Required Skills

  • Experience handling workers' compensation matters
  • Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable MVR, and an ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Advocacy: Has the knowledge and ability to assist, defend or plead for another
  • Communication: Has a knowledge and ability to deliberately and precisely exchange thoughts and opinions with one or more persons and to effectively translate legal language and ideas into layman's terms
  • Organization Skills: Must have the ability to categorize and prioritize work and information to effectively maximize productivity

Preferred Skills

  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e-mail and calendar
  • Able to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters and other claims professionals and support staff
  • Investigative Skills: Has an ability to follow up step by step on inquiry or observation; to trace or track, search or examine with care and accuracy. Specifically, must take evidence that may be used in reaching a legal conclusion
  • Legal Research: Must demonstrate the ability to locate cases, treaties, codified laws and statutes aimed at the discovery and interpretation of law and to draw a reasonable and accurate conclusion or render an opinion there from
  • Courtroom Skills: Has appropriate courtroom behavior, attire and decorum and is familiar with the rules and regulations that govern proceedings and conduct in courts of law or other legal forums and tribunals. Dedication to providing the highest professional service to clients and claims professionals

Education Requirements

  • Admitted to the bar and must be licensed to practice law in the jurisdictions where assigned
  • California Bar admission required

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to travel as necessary (court appearances required once or twice per quarter)
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
