    Under the direct supervision of the Crew Leader, the Climber Trimmer is responsible for trimming and clearing vegetation that grows within specified distances from overhead electric lines and utility company rights-of-way. This role may also involve removing trees in public rights-of-way. Additionally, the Climber Trimmer will perform other duties as needed to efficiently restore or maintain electrical power, particularly during storm restoration efforts.

    Routine Job Functions:

    • Trim or remove trees near energized utility power lines under supervision.
    • Climb trees or use aerial lift trucks.
    • Operate power equipment: trucks, power saws, winches, trim lifts, chippers, sprayers, hydraulic and pneumatic tools.
    • Use hand tools: hand saws, throw bags/lines, handlines, pruners (under 15 lbs).
    • Use and carry chainsaws, pruner poles, ropes (under 15 lbs).
    • Fell trees using chainsaws and ropes (under 15 lbs).
    • Apply spray chemicals to brush and stumps, avoiding damage to desirable vegetation (spray container under 20 lbs).
    • Perform routine assignments: ground person, crew spotter, crew flagger.

    Job Requirements:

    • Frequently lifting 1 to 15 pounds, which involves carrying tools and equipment necessary to perform tasks, can often be accomplished with one hand. Occasionally carrying up to 50 pounds, such as picking up logs or pieces of wood from the ground to stack or pile. These pieces are cut to a weight and size suitable for the employee's physical capabilities. The largest saw used does not weigh over 15 pounds, and a handsaw can be substituted for a chainsaw if needed.
