Field Service Technician / Field Service Engineer

Our client is expanding their Field Service team and is seeking a skilled Service Technician responsible for the installation, start-up, commissioning, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of centrifugal compressor packages and related equipment at customer sites. Additional responsibilities include providing technical support, customer training, and operational feedback related to installed equipment.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing role where technical expertise, independent problem-solving ability, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction are essential. The ideal candidate will have experience with centrifugal compressors or other rotating equipment and be comfortable working independently in the field while traveling extensively.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site equipment start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, overhauls, and repairs.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and implement corrective actions with minimal supervision.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and support to customers and internal teams.
  • Work directly with maintenance personnel, engineers, production teams, and plant leadership at customer facilities.
  • Document service activities, complete work orders, and submit field reports in a timely manner.
  • Communicate equipment performance issues and service findings back to engineering and service teams.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment, probes, instrumentation, and performance analysis tools to evaluate system performance.
  • Conduct customer and channel partner training programs as required.
  • Identify opportunities for additional service, maintenance, or equipment upgrades while onsite.
  • Maintain compliance with all company and customer safety requirements, including proper use of PPE.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Education

  • Associate's Degree, technical certification, military training, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Three to five years of related field service, maintenance, commissioning, or industrial equipment experience preferred.
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree may be considered for Engineer-level opportunities.

Preferred Experience

  • Centrifugal compressors.
  • Rotating equipment.
  • Industrial air compressors.
  • Pumps, blowers, turbines, or similar mechanical systems.
  • Startup and commissioning activities.
  • Preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Vibration analysis, instrumentation, and diagnostics.
  • Industrial controls and control systems troubleshooting.
  • Manufacturing or industrial plant environments.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work independently at customer sites with limited supervision.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and resourceful.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • ERP experience is a plus.

Travel Requirements

  • Extensive travel throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and South America, with occasional global travel opportunities.
  • Travel can be up to 75%.
  • Typical trips are approximately 3 days in length, with downtime between assignments.
  • Candidates should be located near a major airport.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours when customer requirements demand.
