Traveling Senior Project Manager - Data Center

Position Overview
Lead and deliver large-scale data center construction and commissioning projects from planning through closeout. Responsible for schedule, budget, quality, safety and stakeholder management for mission-critical and hyperscale environments. Coordinate mechanical, electrical and plumbing scopes, control costs and risks, and align commercial and financial objectives while ensuring uptime and compliance with technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of data center projects including pre-construction, procurement, construction, commissioning and closeout for mission-critical and hyperscale facilities.
  • Develop, maintain and drive project schedules and budgets; implement cost control measures and report financial status to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate multi-trade construction activities, including mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, piping and electrical contractors, ensuring efficient trade coordination and labor management.
  • Oversee construction management activities on-site, enforce safety, quality and compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Lead risk management efforts: identify, mitigate and track technical, schedule and commercial risks to protect project delivery and uptime objectives.
  • Partner with estimating, commercial and accounting teams to manage contracts, change orders, invoicing, cash flow and other financial controls.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering and design teams to review MEP systems, HVAC strategies and mission-critical redundancy requirements.
  • Drive commissioning and start-up activities to validate system performance, reliability and operational readiness.
  • Mentor and lead project teams, subcontractor relationships and vendors, fostering high-performance and accountability.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, owners, and internal stakeholders; produce status reports, executive summaries and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field; mechanical engineering degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive construction and project management experience, with a minimum of 5 years focused on data center or mission-critical facilities.
  • Proven experience with hyperscale data center projects, mechanical/HVAC systems, plumbing and piping integration.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with project finances, accounting processes, cost control and commercial contract management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in trade coordination, labor management and construction management best practices.
  • Experience with project controls tools (MS Project, Primavera P6, BIM/REVIT) and familiarity with commissioning processes for mission-critical systems.
  • Certifications such as PMP, PE or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation and stakeholder communication skills; ability to drive teams to meet schedule and quality targets.
  • Proven capability in risk management, quality assurance and enforcing safety standards on construction sites.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work extended hours during critical phases of project delivery.
