Traveling Field Technician

Based in Daytona Beach, FL | Approximately 75% Travel

RiseTek is looking for a hands-on, mechanically and technically capable Traveling Field Technician to join our deployment team.

This position will be based in the Daytona Beach / Volusia County area, but it is primarily a travel role. Depending on current project volume, you should expect to spend approximately 75% of your time traveling to customer sites throughout Florida and across the U.S., with roughly 25% supporting projects locally in Volusia County.

That mix will change from time to time. Some periods may involve significant back-to-back travel, while others may include more local work.

We are looking for someone who likes working in the field, can troubleshoot problems without needing step-by-step direction, and is comfortable working with a mix of electrical, networking, mechanical and technology systems.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll work directly on the installation, deployment, troubleshooting and maintenance of technology used in parking, transportation and access-control environments.

Projects may include:

• License plate recognition cameras and other IP camera systems
• Solar panels, batteries, charge controllers and solar-powered equipment
• Cellular routers, antennas and connectivity equipment
• Ethernet and other low-voltage cabling
• Parking access and gate-control systems
• Vehicle detection equipment and sensors
• Parking kiosks, meters and related payment hardware
• Outdoor equipment enclosures, poles, mounts and related infrastructure
• Windows-based PCs, network-connected devices and field controllers
• Signage and other supporting field equipment

One project may have you mounting and aiming cameras, terminating network cable and configuring a cellular router. Another may involve diagnosing a solar or battery issue, replacing equipment, troubleshooting a gate installation or helping bring an entirely new site online.

This is not a desk-based IT position. You will regularly be outside, using tools, working around equipment and solving problems in real-world environments.

Travel

Travel is a major part of this position.

You should expect approximately 75% travel, although the actual amount will vary depending on our deployment schedule.

Travel may include:

• Multi-day and multi-week project deployments
• Air travel and driving to customer locations
• Projects throughout Florida and elsewhere in the United States
• Staying in hotels while projects are underway
• Occasional schedule changes based on customer and project requirements

When not traveling, you will generally work from the Daytona Beach / Volusia County area, supporting our significant local deployment footprint, preparing equipment, completing service work and assisting with other field projects.

If frequent travel is something you tolerate rather than something you're comfortable with, this probably isn't the right position.

What We're Looking For

You don't need to have worked specifically in the parking industry.

We're much more interested in finding someone who is technically capable, mechanically inclined, dependable and able to figure things out in the field.

Relevant backgrounds could include:

• Low-voltage installation
• Security cameras / CCTV
• Access control
• Gate operators
• Telecommunications
• Networking
• Solar installation or service
• Electrical work
• Field service
• Industrial or commercial equipment installation
• Parking technology
• Intelligent transportation systems
• Similar hands-on technical roles

A strong candidate should be comfortable with several of the following:

• Using hand and power tools
• Running and terminating Ethernet / low-voltage cable
• Basic IP networking and device configuration
• Troubleshooting connectivity issues
• Working with 12V/24V DC electrical systems
• Batteries and solar-powered equipment
• Installing cameras, antennas and electronics
• Using a multimeter and basic diagnostic equipment
• Reading wiring diagrams and installation documentation
• Working from a laptop to configure field hardware
• Diagnosing a problem instead of simply replacing parts
• Working independently when necessary

You don't need to know every system we use on day one. We can teach our specific equipment.

We do need someone with enough technical aptitude that once you've been shown how something works, you can understand it, troubleshoot it and eventually handle it yourself.

The Kind of Person Who Does Well Here

Our field projects don't always happen in perfect laboratory conditions.

Equipment gets installed outdoors. Networks behave strangely. A mounting location may be different from the drawing. A device may arrive configured incorrectly. Something that worked yesterday may suddenly stop communicating.

We need someone who can look at the situation, work through the possibilities and solve the problem.

You'll likely do well in this role if you:

• Enjoy figuring out how things work
• Are comfortable getting your hands dirty
• Take pride in clean, professional installations
• Can work independently without disappearing
• Communicate clearly when there is a problem
• Are dependable about showing up and completing the job
• Can adapt when a field condition doesn't match the original plan
• Don't mind spending a significant amount of time on the road

Physical / Field Requirements

This is an active field position. You must be able to:

• Work outdoors in Florida and other climates
• Stand and work for extended periods
• Lift and carry field equipment and tools
• Use ladders when required
• Perform installation work involving bending, climbing and reaching
• Safely operate hand and power tools
• Drive between project locations

A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.

Location

Candidates should live in or within reasonable commuting distance of Daytona Beach / Volusia County, Florida.

This is important because Daytona serves as the employee's home base and we have a significant amount of ongoing field work in the area when the technician is not traveling.

This is not a remote position and relocation to another part of the country would not work for this role.

Why This Role Is Different

This isn't a position where you'll spend every day performing the same installation.

Our team deploys a broad mix of technology, and you'll get exposure to networking, cameras, solar, electrical systems, access control, sensors, payment equipment and other field technology.

For someone who enjoys hands-on technical work and doesn't want to spend every day in the same building, there's a lot of variety.
