Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting on a Med/Surg Telemetry float team
  • Primary unit at the main facility with required floating across Region Two facilities (St. Clare Hospital-Lakewood, St. Elizabeth Hospital-Enumclaw, and the main facility in Tacoma, WA)
  • Floats among 6 different Med/Surg Telemetry units covering surgical, long-term low acuity, general medical, cardiac/short stay, neuro, and ortho/spine populations
  • May also be assigned to alternate units including Med Surg Oncology, ER Transition Unit, Cardiac Decision Unit, and Med-Surg Transition area
  • RN patient ratio of 4-5 patients, with CNAs supporting at 8-11 patients
  • May be assigned CNA or entrance screener duties if needed, consistent with facility staff expectations
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts, full-time, every other weekend
  • Required to float across all Med/Surg/Tele divisions based on staffing needs
  • On-call/standby requirement up to 4 times during the contract
  • Holiday coverage required for 1-2 winter holidays
  • Remote telemetry techs monitor and read strips; RNs verify readings
  • RT equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP, and trach care (no ventilators)

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license required, active at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
  • Must be able to titrate drips including insulin, heparin, nitro, dobutamine, dopamine, and Cardizem per unit guidelines
  • Experience with EPIC EMR
  • Driver's license copy required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across multiple Med/Surg Telemetry units including surgical, oncology, neuro, ortho/spine, and cardiac populations
  • Verify telemetry readings monitored remotely by telemetry technicians
  • Titrate medication drips per unit guidelines and transfer patients to critical care if max dose is reached
  • Charge RN support available on each unit, with House Supervisor coverage from 11am-7am
  • Unit-specific orientation provided (4 hours each) for primary units; no orientation provided for alternate float units
  • Breaks must be taken when offered and cannot be refused
  • No specific scrub color required
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with the parent health system within the past year
  • First-time travelers may be considered
